On December 6, Chinese Ambassador to Thailand Lyu Jian and Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, Research and Innovation of Thailand Soranit Siltharm signed the MOU on the cooperation on project of the Langcang-Mekong cooperation special fund in Bangkok.

In his speech, Ambassador Lyu pointed out that Lancang-Mekong cooperation is always aimed at improving people's livelihood, and what the local people care about is what Lancang-Mekong cooperation focuses on. As Premier Li Keqiang said at the 2nd Lancang-Mekong Cooperation leaders' meeting, health is the foundation of people's happiness and the guarantee of national prosperity. At present, the task of preventing and controlling of malaria, dengue fever, liver fluke and other diseases in Lancang-Mekong region is still arduous. China is willing to work with Mekong countries, including Thailand, to carry out in-depth joint prevention and control of cross-border infectious diseases. "Food Safety and Early Detection Training Course" and "Liver Fluke Prevention and Control in Mekong region" are two projects directly related to people's health in the region. China expects these two projects to achieve early results and make positive contributions to people's health in the region.

Mr. Soranit Siltharm thanked China for its valuable support to Thailand under the framework of Lancang-Mekong cooperation. In combination with his own medical experience, he stressed that the newly signed projects will benefit the general public in the region and build a regional sustainable health network. The Ministry of Higher Education, Science, Research and Innovation of Thailand was recently established to improve the quality of people and increase added value of economic development. Thailand is eager to strengthen exchanges and cooperation with China and make continuous progress towards an innovative country.

The "Food Safety and Early Detection Training Course" and "Liver Fluke Prevention and Control in Mekong region" projects implemented by Khon Kaen University of Thailand, will strengthen communication and cooperation in the field of food safety and liver fluke prevention and control, and jointly improve the health level of people among the six countries in the region.
