Ambassador Han Zhiqiang Meets with IOM Regional Director for Asia and the Pacific Maria Nenette Motus and IOM Chief of Mission in Thailand Géraldine Ansart

On November 25, H.E. Mr. Han Zhiqiang, Chinese Ambassador to Thailand had a virtual meeting with Dr. Maria Nenette Motus, Regional Director for Asia and the Pacific of the International Organization for Migration (IOM) and Ms. Géraldine Ansart, IOM Chief of Mission in Thailand.
    Ambassador Han appreciated the important role of the IOM Regional Office for Asia and the Pacific and the IOM Mission in Thailand in promoting regional cooperation on migration. He introduced joint efforts and progress made between China and Thailand in combating COVID-19, promoting bilateral economic and trade cooperation and post-pandemic recovery. Ambassador Han said, this year marks the 20th anniversary of the establishment of relations between China and IOM. China is willing to strengthen cooperation with IOM to promote regional and global migration governance, and jointly implement the Global Development Initiative.
    Dr. Maria Nenette Motus highly praised the cordial cooperation between China and IOM, and expressed appreciation to China for its strong support to international cooperation on migration. IOM is willing to continue to work closely with China in the region and in Thailand to facilitate safe, orderly and regular migration,improve capacity building for migrants, protect the rights of migrants and promote social and economic development in Asia and the Pacific region.
