On the evening of July 5, two boats carrying Chinese tourists capsized off the coast of Phuket, Thailand. So far, 45 Chinese tourists have been confirmed dead and 2 are still missing. The local weather condition is bad at present, but there are still a large number of Chinese tourists coming to the above-mentioned area for sailing, swimming, snorkeling and other water games. The relevant area in Thailand is prone to drowning of Chinese tourists.
The Chinese Embassy in Thailand once again reminds Chinese tourists that the biggest security risk for tourism in Thailand is the risk at sea. Please improve safety and self-protection awareness, check the weather and sea conditions in advance, do not venture into water games and make sure to travel safely. In particular, during the monsoon season from May to October every year, southern Thailand including Phuket, Phang-Nga, Krabi and other part of Andaman sea (i.e., the west coast off the Indo-China Peninsula) have a changeable weather. Wind and waves at the sea could be very strong and the sea conditions complex. Waves as high as 2 to 4 meters could occur in some part of the sea. Swimming, diving or sailing are thus not suitable.
