Speech by Defense AttachéRear AdmiralWang Zheng on Celebrating the 95th Anniversary of the Founding of the Chinese People's Liberation Army

On 1 August 2022, we will celebrate the 95th anniversary of the founding of the Chinese People's Liberation Army (CPLA). The Nanchang Uprising in 1927 unveiled the Communist Party of China (CPC)’s independent leadership in armed struggle and ushered in a new era of building the people's military.

Over the past 95 years, the CPLA has always adhered to "seeking happiness for the Chinese people and rejuvenation for the Chinese nation", which is the original aspiration and mission of the CPC. The CPLA has made great achievements in striving for national independence, people's liberation, country’s prosperity and in defending national sovereignty and territorial integrity, maintaining world peace and promoting progress of mankind. With Socialism with Chinese characteristics entering the new era, the CPLA has been thoroughly implementing Xi Jinping's thoughts on strengthening the military and accelerating the building of a world-class military, providing strategic support for the realization of the “Two Centenary Goals" and the Chinese Dream of the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation.

The CPLA is a military that dares to fight and will win any war, and is always in readiness to defend national sovereignty, security and development interests. We have firm will, full confidence and sufficient capacity to resolutely defeat any aggressor, any separating plots or acts, and any foreign interferences in any forms. The CPLA is a peace-loving army that has always pursued a national defense policy that is defensive in nature. No matter how developed it becomes, China will never seek hegemony and expansion or impose its own will on others. The CPLA is a the people's army and always serves the people wholeheartedly. In the battle against the COVID-19 pandemic, the CPLA has played a mainstay role in the anti-pandemic campaigns in Wuhan, Shanghai and other places. At the same time, the CPLA has also been actively helping the people and militaries of other countries in the world to fight against the pandemic and safeguard global public health security.

China and Thailand are connected by mountains and rivers, blood, and cultures. The two countries have forged a profound friendship through exchanges that have lasted for thousands of years. The two peoples have joined hands in dealing with the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic which makes our friendship much stronger than ever before. The armed forces of the two countries have maintained close exchanges. The army, navy and air force of the two countries have established joint training mechanisms, and have achieved remarkable results in practical cooperations such as military personnel education, joint trainings and drills, and equipment and technology cooperation. The world peace and regional stability are facing multiple challenges as the world is confronted with the combined impacts of the pandemic and major changes both unseen in a century. The CPLA will further strengthen exchanges and cooperation with the Royal Thai Armed Forces, and continue to enhance the strategic mutual trust and friendship between the two militaries, so as to provide strong security guarantee for forging a Thailand-China Community with a Shared Future, maintaining regional peace and stability, and promoting common development.

The Chinese government, people and military are willing to work with Thailand and the rest of the international community to comprehensively advance the Global Security Initiative (GSI), jointly foster a vision of common, comprehensive, cooperative and sustainable security, and forge a new type of security that replaces confrontation, alliance and a zero-sum approach with dialogue, partnership and win-win results by taking mutual respect as the fundamental requirement, indivisible security as the important principle, and building a security community as the long-term goal, so as to contribute Chinese wisdom and Chinese strength to maintaining global and regional peace and stability and building a community with a shared future for mankind.
