On 27 August, the spokesperson of the Chinese Embassy in Thailand stated to the media that China is paying high attention to the recent floods that hit many places in northern and northeastern Thailand. With preliminary verification from line departments in China, the section in China has been maintaining normal flow in recent times, and relevant reservoirs along the Lancang River are impounded. From 18 to 25 August , the average daily outflow of the Jinghong Hydropower Station dropped by 60% compared to the same period in last August, and no flood discharge was carried out. The six countries in the Lancang River Basin are a community of a shared future connected by mountains and rivers. China fully respects and accommodates the interests and concerns of other basin countries, and is willing to further strengthen information sharing and cooperation about water resources, improve the comprehensive management capacity in the basin, and jointly respond to challenges such as climate change and floods.
