On August 24, State Councilor Wang Yong co-hosted the 6th Meeting of China-Thailand Joint Committee on Trade, Investment and Economy with Thai Deputy Prime Minister Somkid Jatusipitak in Bangkok.

Wang Yong pointed out that the two meetings between President Xi Jinping and Prime Minister Prayut last year charted the course for the development of China-Thailand relations. Both sides should earnestly implement the significant consensus reached by the two leaders, create synergy between development strategies of the two countries under the framework of the Belt and Road, and conduct bilateral pragmatic cooperation in a larger scale, wider areas and greater depth.

Somkid stated that the Thai side attaches great importance to deepening bilateral economic cooperation and trade with China and is willing to draw upon China’s development experience, enhance the complementarity of the Eastern Economic Corridor (EEC) and the Belt and Road, facilitate Chinese companies’ investment in Thailand and support Thai companies in taking an active part in the First China International Import Expo.

Both sides agreed to work jointly against unilateralism and protectionism, and promote the liberalization and facilitation of trade and investment under the new circumstances. The two sides carried out extensive and in-depth discussion on synergizing strategies on economic development, enhancing cooperation on trade and investment, connectivity, agriculture, science and technology, aerospace, tourism, finance and other fields. Multiple outcomes have been achieved at the meeting, after which the two sides signed the minutes of the meeting as well as a number of cooperation documents.

During his stay in Thailand, State Councilor Wang Yong attended the Thailand-China Business Forum, and visited the EEC.
